SPECIAL PROCESSES TECHNOLOGIST
Role purpose:
ITP Aero UK are recruiting for a Manufacturing Laboratory Technologist to join our growing team in Hucknall - UK on a full-time permanent basis, 37 hours per week.
We are seeking an experienced Special Processes Technologist to provide technical ownership and support for heat treatment and other hot manufacturing processes at ITP Aero UK. The role combines hands-on manufacturing support with process governance, pyrometry compliance, audit readiness and continuous improvement within a high-integrity aerospace environment.
Your main responsibilities / What you will do:
- Control, maintain and develop hot special processes supporting the manufacture of aerospace components, with primary responsibility for heat treatment and associated pyrometry controls.
- Provide technical leadership for heat treatment processes and ensure compliance with AMS2750, applicable customer specifications, NADCAP requirements and the site quality management system.
- Control pyrometry activities, including furnace classification, instrumentation, calibration, temperature uniformity surveys, system accuracy tests, thermocouple management and the retention of compliant records.
- Understand and apply the same robust approach to process control and thermal assurance across other hot processes, including hot creep forming, superplastic forming and brazing.
- Ensure engineering, customer and regulatory requirements are satisfied during new product introduction and ongoing manufacture.
- Generate, review and approve technical documentation, including process data cards, procedures, shop-floor instructions, stage drawings and methods of manufacture for internally and externally manufactured components.
- Provide timely technical support to production and lead investigations into manufacturing, quality and process issues, including root-cause analysis and corrective action.
- Support customer and NADCAP audits, maintain existing process approvals and lead the timely resolution of audit findings and process non-conformances.
- Maintain operator training and qualification requirements, including identifying specification changes that require training or requalification.
- Support the selection, technical justification, acquisition, commissioning and qualification of new processing equipment.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Quality, Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain and external suppliers to deliver safe, capable and compliant processes.
Who we are looking for:
Essential Criteria
- Relevant technical experience in heat treatment within an aerospace, high-integrity manufacturing or similarly regulated environment.
- Strong working knowledge of AMS2750 and its practical application to aerospace heat-treatment equipment and processes.
- Practical understanding of pyrometry controls, including temperature uniformity surveys, system accuracy tests, calibration, thermocouple control, instrumentation and furnace classification.
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings, technical instructions, customer requirements and national or international specifications.
- Experience of process control, technical problem-solving, root-cause investigation and corrective action.
- Ability to generate clear technical documentation and maintain accurate, auditable records.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to provide technical direction and work effectively across functions.
- Strong attention to detail, sound technical judgement and a structured approach to managing priorities and production requirements.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of hot creep forming, superplastic forming and/or brazing, including an understanding of how equivalent thermal and process controls are applied to these processes.
- Knowledge and experience of other aerospace special processes and their associated process controls.
- Experience supporting NADCAP Heat Treating audits, customer approvals or other regulatory and accreditation audits.
- Familiarity with titanium, nickel and steel aerospace alloys and the relationship between thermal processing, microstructure and component performance.
- Experience of furnace or thermal-processing equipment qualification, commissioning, maintenance strategy or process capability improvement.
- Experience supporting external suppliers and reviewing or approving manufacturing methods and technical documentation.
Who will I work with?
You will be based at ITP Aero’s Hucknall site and will join the Special Processes and Manufacturing Laboratory team. You will work closely with experienced Special Process Technologists, Materials and Manufacturing Engineers, Quality, Operations and Maintenance colleagues, as well as customers and external suppliers.

Days – 37 hours per week working Monday to Friday core hours 08:00-16:12
